Quentin Williams is Professor of Linguistics in the Linguistics Department at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), and Director of the Centre for Multilingualism and Diversities Research (CMDR). He is the founder and chairperson of the Societie virrie Advancement van Kaaps (SAK), and an editorial board member of the journal Aweh: jînil virrie minoritized tali. His most recent publication is the Kaaps Woriboek (published in 2026). He is currently completing several book projects: Inventing Afrikaaps, Reinventing South Africa: a new language for new racial, linguistic, and political-economic futures (with H Samy Alim, Adam Haupt and Emile Jansen) (under contract with OUP), Linguistic Citizenship and Vulnerability (with Marcelyn Oostendorp and Chris Stroud) (under contract with Bloomsbury), and the Palgrave Handbook of Linguistic Landscapes (with Amiena Peck and Gilles Baro) (under contract with Palgrave).
