Integration of structure/function predictions into the CERI emerging threat genomic surveillance pipeline

The Centre for Epidemiology Research and Innovation collects high-precision and timely data on emerging health threats by carrying out a world-class genomic surveillance effort. This wealth of information provides immense insight and benefits for human, animal and plant health. New opportunities for analysis and prediction of beneficial responses are continually emerging. During the fellowship period, I request to work in a team environment to explore how prediction of protein 3-dimensional structure can enhance our understanding of emerging pathogen threats, potentially including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. If successful, this STIAS fellowship will help create sustainable, self-renewing teams with technological expertise and commitment to scientific research. Our goal is to provide real-time, systematic evaluation of the structural consequences of genetic and biochemical changes in pathogen infection, proliferation, transmission and virulence. New predictive capabilities will be integrated in a seamless manner with existing sequencing and analysis capabilities to accelerate responses to emerging threats.
