This project challenges two dominant narratives. First, that the African continent will only be a victim of climate change. Second, that existing economic models appropriately cater for climate change. My project will show that Africa can be an active shaper of climate change trajectories that has the potential to drive new economic pathways for rapid and sustainable growth in Africa. The project harnesses three strands of current research - the care-climate nexus, green industrial policy in the global South, and critical minerals in Africa, to show that the climate transition has the potential to reshape energy systems, production processes and social structures across the continent and positively reorder Africa's relationship with the global economy.
