Lena-Sofia Tiemeyer

Lena-Sofia Tiemeyer is Professor in Old Testament Exegesis, ALT School of Theology, Sweden, and Research Associate at the Department of Old Testament and Hebrew Scripture, University of Pretoria, South Africa. She has published widely on the prophetic literature in the Hebrew Bible, including two monographs on Isaiah (Priestly Rites and Prophetic Rage, Mohr Siebeck 2006) and For the Comfort of Zion (Brill, 2011), two monographs on Zechariah (T&T Clark, 2015 and 2016), and a reception-historical commentary, Jonah through the Centuries (Wiley, 2021). More recently, she has turned her attention to biblical narrative and its reception in literature. Her monograph, In Search of Jonathan (2023), is devoted to Jonathan in 1–2 Samuel and contemporary fiction. In addition, she has edited more than ten volumes, including the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of King David (2026). Tiemeyer currently serves as the editor-in-chief of the monograph series Vetus Testamentum Supplement (Brill) and has long been the co-editor of the Journal for the Old Testament Study (Sage). Her current research focuses on the reception of biblical narrative, with a focus on its female characters in evangelical fiction, and how this literary genre uses the biblical texts to further modern, western evangelical values.
