Dr Khalid Salie is an accomplished academic, mentor, and leader with more than three decades of experience in Aquaculture education, development, and capacity building. His academic career spans Stellenbosch University, the University of South Africa (UNISA), Auburn University (USA), and the University of Stirling (Scotland). He holds a BSc, BSc(Hon), , MSc in Natural Sciences (Zoology and Botany), and a PhD in Aquaculture. His work bridges the Natural and Agricultural Sciences, addressing Africa’s challenges in food and nutrition security, sustainable livelihoods, environmental sustainability, climate change, and resource management. His expertise includes ecological aquaculture, integrated farming systems, sustainable development, byproduct valorisation, environmental impact assessment, and capacity building. Dr Salie has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to an academic book. He has supervised master's and doctoral students and mentored more than 50 emerging researchers, supporting their research capabilities and career development. A key focus of his work is community engagement using science to foster creativity, innovation, skills development, and practical solutions to local challenges, particularly those affecting food provision and livelihoods.

Through continental and international forums, Dr Salie strengthens collaboration and promotes sustainable aquaculture solutions for Africa and beyond.
