Germano Mwabu

I started my primary schooling in 1958 in Kenya, at about age 9. I completed my secondary education in 1970, and in the following year, was admitted to the University of Nairobi, where I completed a bachelor of commerce degree in accounting, followed by a master of arts in economics. I was selected into a staff training programme and proceeded, on scholarship, to Boston University in 1976 for doctoral studies in economics. BU awarded me a master of arts degree in development economics in 1982 and a doctorate in economics in 1984. I returned to Kenya immediately after completing my studies to teach economics, first at the University of Nairobi and then at Kenyatta University. I served as a department chair in both institutions. I relocated to Nairobi in 1997, where in 2022 I was appointed professor emeritus. My teaching and research work in Kenya gave me research opportunities at UNU-WIDER (Helsinki), Yale, Cornell, World Bank, Brookings, Brazzaville, and Gothenburg.
