Akeem Babatunde Sikiru is a Senior Lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Animal Production from the Federal University of Technology Minna and completed postdoctoral fellowship training at the Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia (IBS-UPM). During his doctoral studies, he was a TWAS-UNESCO and DBT Government of India Research Scholar at ICAR-NIANP in Bangalore, India. As an Iso Lomso Fellow at STIAS, his research project is titled "The Epistemology of Resilience: Integrating Indigenous and Scientific Knowledge for Climate-Adapted African Livestock Systems." This work builds upon his extensive background in animal molecular physiology, where he investigates the cellular basis of heat stress and the gut microbiome in relation to the biochemical and transcriptomic regulation of stress in livestock. His research applies bioinformatics, multi-omics, and computational modeling to advance climate-smart livestock production and promotion of Water-Energy-Food nexus in West Africa. By synthesizing traditional husbandry practices with modern molecular science, his work aims to formulate sustainable, scalable solutions for enhancing livestock productivity, food security, and thermal resilience across Africa's changing environments.
